Sonha Nguyen, MD, MS

Sonha Nguyen, MD, is a board-certified physician providing primary care through United Medical Doctors. She is a member of UC San Diego Health Physician Network.  

UC San Diego Health Physician Network is an alliance of health care providers based in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties. Members of the network collaborate on developing shared systems, infrastructure and quality initiatives to provide high-value health care in the region.  

As a primary care physician, Dr. Nguyen provides preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases and injuries for adults. She was born and raised in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States with her family at 13 years old. The poverty and lack of sufficient medical service in her birth country ignited her childhood dream of becoming a competent and compassionate physician. Dr. Nguyen embraces the special patient-physician relationship, as well as the opportunity to understand each patient and assist with their healthcare needs. She keenly believes that preventive care, along with early diagnosis and proper management, is the fundamental essence to improve one's quality of life.

Dr. Nguyen completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of California, Riverside and earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She is board certified in internal medicine and has subspecialty training in hemostasis and thrombosis. Dr. Nguyen is fluent in Vietnamese.

In her free time, Dr. Nguyen enjoys reading, outdoor activities, traveling and spending time with her family. She feels blessed to be the mother of a son, who taught her to live, laugh and love in the simplest ways.
